Shahzeen Humayun

UC Berkeley, Bachelor of Science - Environmental Economics & Policy

Shahzeen has several years of experience volunteering at organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, BOSS (Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency), The Salvation Army, and Homeless Prenatal. In addition, Shahzeen sits on the Board of Directors for We Care Services, a Bay Area-based organization which provides children with special needs skills for a better start in life, and is a fellow newsletter editor for the nonprofit, One Bread Foundation Inc which provides monetary support for the rehabilitation of child victims of sex trafficking in the United States. By being a part of such organizations, Shahzeen has developed a passion to give back to the community and work towards alleviating the impact poverty has over children. As a founder of Help Global, Shahzeen hopes to work towards having a world where every child is educated, and every human has the resources he or she needs to succeed and progress in life with dignity.

 

Hina Humayun

UC Davis, Bachelor of Science- Microbiology

Modesto Christian High School

Hina graduated from the University of California, Davis with placement on the Dean’s List. During high school, Hina interned for the political campaign office of U.S Congressman Jeff Denham. Upon entering UC Davis, she joined the Bhagat Puran Singh Health Initiative and actively volunteered for the Hope Homeless Shelter, Wellspring Women's Shelter and the Asian American Donor Program in Davis, California. In addition, Hina was heavily involved in the IMPROVE (Interagency Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments) research project - a federally funded initiative under the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) geared at raising awareness on preventative practices to reduce air pollution. During her junior year at UC Davis, Hina traveled to Nicaragua as an intern for the Global Medical Brigades organization which aims to provide free health care to the medically underserved areas around the world. In Nicaragua, Hina helped put together community-driven workshops and sanitation projects. Along with actively participating in her community, Hina published articles for the biomedical publication Morning Sign Out, tailored toward making the world of science more accessible to the general public. Hina will begin her journey as a medical student this year in Pennsylvania. In the near future, she hopes to pursue her passion for medicine by joining the humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders.

 

Monaiza Humayun

UC Berkeley, Bachelor of Science- Molecular Environmental Biology

Modesto Christian High School - Valedictorian

Monaiza has devoted a large part of her life serving individuals both through her political work and community service projects. She worked as a district representative for California Assembly-member Bill Quirk and as an intern for U.S. Congressman Eric Swalwell. She served as a liaison between the Assembly-member and constituents, district organizations, local governments and state agencies. One of her most notable undertakings with Assembly-member Bill Quirk was introducing HR 59, declaring August as Muslim Awareness and Appreciation Month. Monaiza has spent much of her time volunteering at organizations such Stiles Hall, the Salvation Army, Valley Comfort, a residence for patients with Dementia and Alzheimer’s, and local food kitchens. Her passion to serve people is evident by her decision to pursue medicine and also by her humanitarian work. Monaiza is currently a second-year medical student in Tennessee. Through Help Global, she hopes to alleviate the challenges that disenfranchised people are facing on a daily basis in Pakistan. She hopes to provide a brighter future for Pakistan by improving access to healthcare, education and basic necessities.

 

Alicia Humayun

Dougherty Valley High School

Alicia Humayun graduated Dougherty Valley High School and is currently attending Diablo Valley College. Throughout high school, Alicia actively volunteered at the soup kitchen and the homeless shelters in the community. In addition, she would spend her summers in Pakistan interning at charitable organizations such as the Edhi Foundation. As Help Global’s Treasurer, Alicia manages the finances, donations and online fundraising campaigns. She has worked tirelessly to allow Help Global to attain a 501(c)3 status allowing all donors to reduce their taxable income both state and federal. Alicia hopes to use her education and experiences in the future to educate the youth on topics like personal finance, budgeting, and business management.

 

Azeema Ilyas

Azeema Ilyas is a photographer based in Peshawar. She graduated from Fatima Jinnah Women University with a major in Defense and Diplomatic Studies. She is a State Alumna and is currently working with the Society for International Education on State-funded exchange programs. Azeema is pursuing photography as a side job and although she does wedding and portrait photography, she prefers street photography. Azeema loves street photography because it helps her understand the system of politics on a deeper level, and on a personal level, she feels like it makes her humbler.
